The White Cube Diaries

Last semester, Brooklyn based artist Erica Harris paid my school a visit and gave a lovely lecture on her work and life. Harris is a rather multifaceted artist, along with creating these amazing collages that I am featuring, she is a printmaker and illustrator. Her collages evoke a sense of  whimsy with a touch of melancholy. The mixture of found imagery with painted paper and details such as hand stitching add another intriguing visual layer to Harris’s collages. Her work inspired by her travels, immediate surroundings, people, and cultures is very apparent through her direct use of found detritus; through these remnants Harris creates a new narrative and life for these discarded items.
